Share the Care: Roles, Permissions, and an Activity Feed

PetCure's family pet care sharing lets multiple caregivers manage the same pet's medications, health logs, and documents — with clear roles so everyone knows what they can do.

PetCure supports household sharing with three invite roles — Co-owner, Caregiver, and Viewer — access that's granted per pet rather than household-wide, and an activity feed showing what every caregiver has done.

What it does

Caring for a pet is rarely a one-person job. The person who created the pet remains the Owner. From there, PetCure lets that owner invite family members or other caregivers with one of three roles: Co-owner (manage care, people, and vet access), Caregiver (complete daily care within assigned permissions), or Viewer (pet-profile access by default — medical read access needs explicit permission overrides).

Access is explicitly pet-specific — inviting someone to help with one pet does not automatically give them access to another pet in the household unless invited separately, which matters for multi-pet households where not every caregiver is involved with every animal.

A Shared Activity feed logs what's changed and by whom, filterable by medications, documents, or invites — so 'did someone already do this' has a real answer instead of a guess.

Key capabilities

Three invite roles

Co-owner, Caregiver, and Viewer, each with a different default set of permissions. The pet creator stays Owner.

Pet-specific access

Invited members only see the pets they're explicitly given access to — not the whole household by default.

Activity feed

A filterable log of what's changed — medications, documents, or invites — and who made the change.

Invite with expiry

Invitations can include a role, an optional expiry date, and a personal message.

How it works

01

Invite a caregiver

Choose a role and which pet(s) they should have access to, with an optional message.

02

Set their permissions

Role-based defaults can be adjusted to match exactly what that person should be able to do.

03

Track shared activity

The activity feed shows what every caregiver has done, filterable by type.

Real-world use cases

  • Two parents both able to give medication doses to the family dog, with duplicate-dose warnings between them.
  • A pet sitter invited as a Viewer for one pet during a trip, with medical permissions adjusted only if needed.
  • An adult child added as a Co-owner to help manage an aging parent's senior pet from a distance.

Free vs Premium

Household sharing is a Premium feature — the Free plan supports 0 additional household members, so it's built for a single caregiver.

Premium supports up to 10 members per pet with role-based, pet-specific access — built for families and multi-caregiver households.

Frequently asked questions

Is family sharing available on the free plan?

No — the Free plan supports 0 additional household members. Family sharing (up to 10 members per pet) is a Premium feature.
